Whitening, or bleaching, is one of the most popular modern Cosmetic Dentistry. It takes very little time to achieve amazing results, changing your natural tooth colour by anything up to 12 shades lighter. Whitening is a safe and effective way to brighten stained, discoloured or dull teeth and lasts up to 5 years. Even a stubborn single tooth that is a noticeably different colour than the rest can be individually brightened.
Bleaching works for most people, particularly those with yellow, brown and orange staining. Grey stains, like those caused by fluorosis and tetracycline can be lightened, but with less than satisfactory results. In some cases, veneers are a better option. An X-ray of your teeth may be necessary in order to assess how appropriate bleaching is for you.
Chair side bleaching is a modern, effective bleaching method. Your gums will be protected with a protective gel or rubber shield. A bleaching agent is then applied to your teeth and a special light is used to enhance the bleaching action. This procedure takes about an hour. If your teeth are only lightly stained, you’ll probably only need one bleaching session.
If you’re interested in brightening your smile, have your teeth evaluated by us. It is important to note that crowns, bridges and fillings do not bleach, so bleaching your teeth might necessitate the replacement of old dental work so that it blends with your newly whitened teeth.
